I spent most of the day staining the new bookshelf.   Owing to the fact that it seemed darker than we wanted it I then wiped most of it off with cloths dipped in turps and had to redo much of it again.  More disagreeable fumes and, with my aversion to wearing gloves, very messy hands too.  It was late afternoon before I entered the studio but then enjoyed working on a nasturtium sketch.
