I have intended to start a blog for quite some time but today I actually took the first step and created
my first site. I have always thought that the most satisfying part of any project is the journey that it takes to reach the destination. Life's journey seems to be a complicated web of interlinked experiences that culminate in numerous destinations, all adding to the richness of experiences. My art teacher at school had attended art school with John Lennon and, whilst she would have added to my fabric of learning on her own merit, this connection made a huge impression on me. My next major art connection was in the art department at tertiary level where I met the person who was to become my husband. I majored in creative embroidery work and painting but dabbled in printmaking and pottery. Our shared interest in the arts have led to many enterprises over the years. Our lives began in England but very early in our marriage we relocated to Australia where we have lived ever since, except for an interlude of three years in Devon. Our three sons took active roles in some of our artistic endeavours until their own pursuits took over.
As we put our teaching career behind us we decided to build Rigmarole Studio in Samford Valley, Queensland, finally returning full-time to our artistic endeavours. As a further celebration of our newly found freedom in 2013 we visited many art galleries and key locations in Italy, France, England and finally New York. We both built a portfolio of material to bring back to the studio and I also experienced the joy of keeping a daily art journal. The art journal has been published as a series of greetings cards and I am in the process of adding more text with the possibility of publishing a couple of travel books.
The painting below is an acrylic on canvas based on the pond in Monet's garden, Giverny. I love reflections of any sort!
