Yesterday's art class focus was on trees and so we chose a simple photographic composition, from a student's collection. For the demonstration I am going to produce a finished acrylic painting, photographing each step as I go. The painting will be completed for next Tuesday's lesson along with all the steps printed out. It is a small canvas 25X30cms. Photos are useful as they show up any flaws in the drawing and can be fixed as you go along. I tend to measure by eye, pencil held at arm's length and sometimes by folding the original photo/printout and working out centre lines and ratio of photo to canvas. The canvas is not long enough to exactly replicate the photograph and so I have simply extended the sky and water area to the right of the canvas.
